Dave - a Tribute by Albert Gunning

Created by Albert 3 years ago

The first time I heard of David Evans was when i was a kid and use to go to Pennycross Stadium where Dave was a ‘jockey’.

His Dad would never hire a horse box so Dave had to ride the pony back to the stables after racing!

My family was in the fruit & veg trade as was Dave.  In all my years of buying and selling I would say he was the best salesman I ever encountered.  He had the gift of the gab and could sell ice to an Eskimo and did so for the rest of his life.  He was Del Boy before Del Boy!

As we all know he liked the taste of whisky. This produced what I call the Jekyll & Hyde where Dave became a pain in the ass, but sober he would do anything for anyone (providing there was a back hander).

When he was at the top of the game he would think nothing of taking a plane to various race courses and living the high life.  GAMBLE I never seen anyone like him.  At the the races or in the bookies fuelled by whisky he would be screaming 'Come to daddy, Come to daddy'.

Dave, thank you for the fun we shared and the occasional drink, a good friend.

I share with the family a tear of sorrow and treasured memories.

                      God bless

Albert
